Three years of NSF funding for a Ph.D. student is immediately available at the UMCES – Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, MD. Focus of the research is lanthanide uptake in aragonite and calcite, and its use in ocean acidification studies. Students with a MS degree, particularly in marine biogeochemistry, and a solid background in trace metal sorption, speciation modeling, the DIC system, solid-solution interface chemistry, and/or physical chemistry are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with ICP-MS is desirable, but not essential.
